THE BAD LIGHT & TUNA DE TIERRA - THE BAD TUNA SPLIT REVIEW

Phonosphera Records, based in Rome, has kicked their new vinyl Slipt Series with an auspicious start... The first issue titled “The Bad Tuna” joins american fuzzy blues trio The Bad Light and italian psychedelic desert nomads Tuna de Tierra, on a solid rock piece with two different but complementary approaches.

Long at last we have fresh material by The Bad Light... the band from Santa Cruz, California that released their last LP on late 2015, bring us their greatly underrated trademark blues fill with bone chilling thick fuzzy riffs and stomping primitive drums. Serving not only as a superb preview for their next LP, which I believe is already in progress, but also as a great introduction to the majestic new singer Celeste Deruisa, that came enhance the awesome vocals dynamics with her harmonious voice benefiting also from the band´s improved songwriting. With lyrics we can all relate to and that speak close to the heart adding the analog warm sound of the instruments in a hybrid between Radio Moscow and Dead Meadow, this band certainly deserves way more credited for what their doing... and I believe their next release will change that.

On the other side, we are invited to revisited Tuna de Tierra´s debut EP “EPisode I: Pilot” self-released back in the summer of 2015 and already sold out. This psychedelic trio emerged on the scene with three tracks of pure palm desert rock dusted with multiple layers of sounds and textures.
It´s a very pleasant journey with contemplative passages and atmospheric grooves along with hypnotic bass lines, entrancing drum beats and heavily effected guitar riffs coated with flanger and delay overlays. A promising debut that would lead them later on to signing with Argonauta Records for the release of their first full length last year.
